    More About This Product

Awareness of the importance of avoiding chemicals applied ON the skin because they end up IN our bodies has grown to the point that even large commercial cosmetic companies are touting “Paraben Free,” “Formaldehyde Free,” etc. However, carefully reading ingredient labels reveals that the majority of skincare products claiming to be “natural” actually contain ingredients known to be toxic or harmful.

Healing Noni Colloidal Botanical Cleanse is free of all sulfates, which is especially important for a cleanser because sulfates are the ’active’ ingredient put in most liquid washes even though they are known eye and skin irritants! The Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS), sodium laureth sulfate(SLES), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), etc specify that they are skin and eye irritants. An article in the Journal of the American College of Toxicology further describes SLS has “a degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties”, and that “high levels of skin penetration may occur at even low use concentration.” The same article reports, “studies have indicated that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate enters and maintains residual levels in the heart, the liver, the lungs and the brain from skin contact. This poses question of it being a serious potential health threat to its use in shampoos, cleansers, and tooth pastes. Still other research has indicated SLS may be damaging to the immune system, especially within the skin. Skin layers may separate and inflame due to its protein denaturing properties.” (See more on sulfates in FAQs)

Instead of harsh sulfates that strip skin of its natural moisture barrier, Colloidal Botanical Cleanse uses an array of moisturizing, nourishing plant oils to gently dissolve dirty oils accumulated on skin (including therapeutic grade lavender oil, whose Latin originated name means “to wash.” Anyone who has ever used olive oil to remove makeup knows that oil dissolves oil.

These nourishing oils are combined with a synergistic blend of botanical superfood extracts - starting with noni since one of noni’s historical primary uses was applying it to skin to keep it healthy and ageless looking. Other superfood plants are added that have well-earned reputations, over thousands of years of use, for having a wide range of health and healing benefits - including beautiful, healthy skin – because they super nourish cells throughout the whole body. For example, alfalfa leaf and horsetail are selected because they are superfoods high in silica (a mineral needed to form collagen). Alfalfa’s Arabic origin name from thousands of years ago means “king / father of all foods” because it’s packed with antioxidants, minerals, proteins, and it’s high chlorophyll level has a powerful detoxifying effect. The important thing is the way the ingredients work together to keep your largest organ– your skin – healthy and looking its best!

    2. absolutely LOVE it star rating

      Posted by Shirin, Wilmington, DE

I’ve been using the Colloidal Botanical Cleanse for two months now and I absolutely LOVE it.
It has changed my skin for better. I have been getting complements on how even and nourished my skin looks.
My skin is more on the dry side and this Cleanser has been so beneficial. Once I wash my face using it I don’t rinse it off completely; I like leaving it on my skin right before bed. It doesn’t dry out my skin and I no longer suffer from blemishes since I started using it.
You only need a little bit of it and so it will last you a long time.
I am so happy that I have finally found an all natural cleanser that doesn’t dry out my skin and actually helps get ride of my blemishes and pimples.

Thank you for creating such an amazing line of product.
I am forever a fan and customer.

I am like most guys I guess and don't really put much thought into creams and potions but after trying some of your NONI wash even diluted I loved it. After washing with the cleanse, I put a little into a little spray bottle with water and sprayed it on my face before bed. It felt great! And got rid of a few pimples even. Love to try the rest of the Healing Noni skin products now.

Recently I purchased a bottle of Healing Noni Colloidal Botanical Cleanse Soap and am very satisfied with this product. My skin is usually dry because of my lifeguarding work, but since I've been using the soap it feels like normal skin! I am looking forward to getting the Healing Noni body lotion to help moisturize my much needed sun dried skin!

    6. Colloidal Botanical Cleanse star rating

Posted by Lynn L., Fountain Valley, Ca.

I have always had the typical “T” zone skin type. I’ve also been prone to clogged pores, as the ones on my cheeks on either side of my nose are large. Using products to help with the oily areas of my face was always hit or miss because they usually ended up drying out my skin. Since I’ve been using the Healing Noni Botanical Cleanse as my facial wash, I’ve noticed I have no tightness due to dryness after washing my face.  My face feels truly clean, even though it doesn’t foam and NOURISHED!  I use the size of a nickel to clean my face and neck. And I use it on my body as well.  I love that it doesn’t leave a residue - just a clean, hydrated feeling! I love this product and have made it my go-to facial/body wash!

You emphasize that your products are free of any kind of sulfates – how bad can they be when they seem to be in just about everything?

Just because sulfates are commonly used, even in most “natural” body care products, doesn’t mean they are OK. They are widely used for industrial and household cleaning, such as engine and garage floor degreasers, carpet cleaning + carwash soaps, etc because these harsh chemicals strip away oil and grease. No one would wash any part of their bodies with any of these industrial cleaners, but the same oil corroding sulfates are in almost all shampoos and conditioners, liquid and gel hand or body washes, bubble baths, face and baby wipes, makeup removers, and toothpaste. Basically, any cleaning product that creates bubbles or foam contains sulfates, and some companies put smaller amounts of sulfates in noncleaning products like skin creams, sunscreens and cosmetics because it is a cheap thickener and emulsifier as well.

Sulfates – skin and eye irritants that thin and dry skin

It’s important to know that the Material Safety Data Sheets of sodium laurel and laureth sulfates’ (and any other sulfates you care to look up) specify that they are skin and eye irritants, which is why they are used in test labs to induce skin irritation and damage on animals or humans when testing to see how effective a skin remedy is. A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology (2010) on Aqueous cream BP, a cream widely prescribed to treat eczema, reduced thickness of healthy skin an average 12% in just four weeks, resulting in water loss through the skin by 20%. Researchers targeted SLS as the most likely ingredient responsible due to its already known harmful effects on skin. Creams, lotions or cosmetics contain much smaller amounts of SLS than soap or shampoo-so minimal they won’t form bubbles- but even such a minimal amount caused that much damage! Water loss as high as 20% is visible as chronic dry skin and premature aging.

SLS damage more than skin deep

A 1983 article in the Journal of the American College of Toxicology (Vol. 2 #7), which seems to be lost in time but really worth reading, starts with “Sodium Lauryl Sulfate had a degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties. High levels of skin penetration may occur at even low use concentration.” The same article reports that “studies have indicated that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate enters and maintains residual levels in the heart, the liver, the lungs and the brain from skin contact. This poses question of it being a serious potential health threat to its use in shampoos, cleansers, and tooth pastes. Still other research has indicated SLS may be damaging to the immune system, especially within the skin. Skin layers may separate and inflame due to its protein denaturing properties.”

    Sulfates toxic to the environment

Also worth a brief mention- because it underscores the toxic qualities of SLS not only to human bodies, but to the environment as well - when SLS manufacturers applied to the USDA National Organic Program (2006) to get SLS approved to be listed as an organic herbicide and pesticide (since it can be used to kill plants and insects) it was denied due to its potential to cause environmental damage. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)1994 warned that it is “toxic to aquatic organisms. It is strongly advised that this substance does not enter the environment.”

Click here to see how sulfates can be listed on labels.

All this over one toxic ingredient out of thousands of other toxic ingredients commonly used in skincare and cosmetics!! Instead of having to spend so much of our precious time reading about each one of the chemicals to avoid, an easier and wiser thing to do is find a brand committed to using only real pure natural ingredients that you trust –like Healing Noni. Buy from them, and use your energy to live a healthy, happy life!!!

Is it really possible to get clean without suds or bubbles?

Absolutely yes!!! We basically have become conditioned to associate bubbles with getting clean, but the fact is bubbles don’t make us clean. Sulfates are surfactants that strip oils from whatever surface they are being used on; they also make lots of suds or bubbles. So we have come to associate oil and grime removal cleaning with bubbles. On skin, sulfates remove oils that are part of the skin’s natural protective moisture barrier, which can cause dryness, or worse, because that interferes with skin’s ability to maintain moisture levels. Colloidal Botanical Cleanse makes use of the principle that oil dissolves oil. Anyone who has used peanut butter or cooking oil to remove tar from their feet, or olive oil to remove make-up, has experienced the ability of oil to melt oil without leaving skin dry and damaged. In our Cleanse, nourishing oils are combined with superfoods and herbs known for their detoxifying properties. You’ll have to try Healing Noni’s Colloidal Botanical Cleanse to really see for yourself. We would love to hear how Colloidal Botanical Cleanse makes your skin feel!

    Kathy's Story

Healing Noni’s skin care products began in Kathy’s Kitchen, with Kathy Hoshijo -hostess of America’s first vegetarian natural foods TV cooking show “Kathy’s Kitchen” (aired nationwide on PBS 1980-1990). Kathy, a pioneer in raising America’s awareness of what we put IN our bodies, also saw the wisdom in avoiding chemicals ON our bodies.

Kathy explains, "I didn’t set out to create a skin care line. I was forced to begin mixing my own skin products in my kitchen because nothing existed that met all the criteria I was looking for."
